Canteen at the Orchard are now open! They will be open daily from now on for takeaway coffee, breakfast and lunch, 8:30am – 4pm.
Based inside Kowel Gwenen, the new community building here at Newquay Orchard, the team are keen to start serving good people good food. Ben Quinn, founder of Canteen Cornwall, is launching Canteen at the Orchard with Paul Saunders, co-founder of Tom Thumb in Newquay.
Ben said: “We’re really proud of what we’ve created here! The team, the food, the environment is already working so well together and now with the public here too we can see this community thriving!”
The Canteen at the Orchard team are driven by a shared ethos with Newquay Community Orchard, in which they hope to create a sustainable community which strives to end social deprivation in the town and act as a welcoming place for all.
Paul said: “I love Newquay and I’m passionate about helping people in this town. Newquay Orchard make a huge difference to the local community and we’re so proud to be a part of that. Being a welcoming place where people can enjoy our food, possibly even make a new friend and benefit from being in nature is our goal.”
Fresh coffee and hot drinks will be served throughout the day alongside Canteen’s famous cinnamon rolls and brownies. Visitors can get breakfast every day until midday when the lunch menu starts. The lunch menu will change daily with a vegetarian and vegan friendly option as well as a non-veggie option. It will make use of seasonal produce sourced from Newquay Community Orchard’s Market Garden, nearby farms and Cornish growers.
Coffee lovers can perch on the terraces which will one day be a performance space for captivating family-friendly entertainment. Visitors will also be able to peep over the fence to the Market Garden where produce used by the Canteen at the Orchard is grown, field to fork in just a few steps.
