Support for start-ups hopes to grow local economy

Here at Newquay Orchard we are now offering 2 new Community Led Local Development (CLLD) programmes to support people in the Newquay and St Columb area with pathways to better economic opportunities.

Taking Roots CLLD programme is aimed at individuals exploring self-employment and starting their own business with a course covering sustainable business practices, market research and what working for yourself encompasses. Whilst the Branching Out CLLD programme offers bespoke advice and support to people who are newly self-employed and have entrepreneurial goals they want to achieve.

We believe individuals and businesses can make a difference to communities through sustainably improving our economy. Our community interest company is already putting this into practice with the Kowel Gwenen Co-workspace, found upstairs from Canteen at the Orchard.

Tim, our Memberships Coordinator here at Newquay Orchard, will be the main contact for participants of the programme. He believes local business is vital to supporting a sustainable community, especially as we build back from the past 18 months.

Tim said: “From the #ShopLocal campaign that saw a boom in small business it’s clear to see demand from consumers is there for small and start-up businesses. I think we’re all more conscious consumers now.”

“The Taking Root and Branching Out CLLD programmes here at Newquay Orchard hope to offer that support and give business owners or those thinking of taking the leap into self-employment the confidence or information they might be lacking,” he added.

Each programme consists of 12 hours of face to face support based at Newquay Orchard. It is hoped these partnerships will work closely with Newquay Orchard to cultivate and nurture local businesses which will grow alongside the development of the urban greenspace. You can find out more about this on our start-up business support page.

Taking Roots and Branching Out CLLD programmes are part funded by the European Social Fund.
