Newquay Orchard opens its Heart & Soul

The Newquay Orchard team, volunteers and students are delighted to have taken over management of the community café at the Orchard.

Heart & Soul is open – 7 days a week, 9am – 3pm

This exciting development will see café staff becoming part of the team and the Orchard become fully responsible for the space.

The name Heart & Soul is a tribute to the Orchard’s original food van, where staff and volunteers came together in An Lowarth to enjoy lunches created from the produce grown there. Lunches have always been made using as much Orchard grown produce as possible – and that won’t change.

Since Spring 2021 the café has been run by the team from Canteen, who brought their blend of great food, good company and memorable customer journeys with them to our corner of Newquay.

They worked closely with our volunteers and students to harvest produce from the Market Garden at Newquay Orchard and craft the tastiest lunches for our community.

Luke Berkeley, Newquay Orchard CEO, said: “We are so grateful for the time we’ve spent with the Canteen team and for all their help, expertise and passion in bringing a café element to the Orchard.”

“Together over the past two years we’ve hosted live music, Feast Nights, inspirational events and live theatre. The Canteen team will continue to support with launch and the setup of Heart & Soul, and we look forward to seeing them back again with their foodie events in the future. “

Although Heart & Soul is open – 7 days a week, 9am – 3pm – there is a lot to do.

The next steps involve finding out exactly what the Newquay Orchard community want to experience at Heart & Soul. The team are holding a few weeks of consultation, with the public given the opportunity to stick ideas on the wall in the café and give thoughts online through a Google Form (coming soon).

Luke said: “This is another fantastic adventure for our community and there are lots of great things ahead.”

“We are really excited to see what we can do with the space – based on all the amazing ideas our community of staff, volunteers, students and the public are bringing – and the good food, and experiences we can share together going forward.”
