THE TERRACES

The Terraces at Newquay Orchard are one of Cornwall’s biggest and newest outdoor arts and music venues seating upwards of 500 people. Wrapping around the front of Kowel Gwenen, the community building, terraced grass and contoured Cornish stone create the perfect place to showcase the best performing arts Cornwall, and beyond, has to offer.
A diverse line up of cultural events will be at home here. Live comedy, spoken word evenings, theatre troupes and musicians will all take centre stage and feature on the year-round programme of events.
Newquay Orchard has always been a place for innovation, and we want to hand over the space to speakers, specialists, changemakers and theorists. Sharing ideas and working collaboratively, The Terraces are a place for thought provoking conversations in a setting that promotes individual thinking.
When not housing performances, The Terraces poses as the perfect picnic spot. Perch here with your packed lunch or treat yourself to some good food from Canteen at the Orchard. The team from Canteen will also be hosting feast nights and foodie events so be sure to look out for those in our events diary.
Did we also mention The Terraces were measured specially to accommodate a yoga mat? Outdoor yoga classes provided by Newquay Orchard partner instructors and solo practice will create a feeling of calm when the area is quiet.
Surrounding The Terraces is the community field, which will provide additional standing capacity for events as well as a place to relax and listen to the entertainment of the day. Seeded with thousands of wildflowers come summertime this patch of land will be a haze of biodiversity increasing flora.
The Newquay Orchard horticulture team have also planted hundreds of young trees in the surrounding community field and one day these trees will act as a much-needed windbreak and provide sound acoustics for the venue. You can read more about the community field here.
The Cornish stone performance terraces are an important part of the development of Newquay Orchard and were part funded by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) a part of DEFRA.
