Elepidote – A group art exhibition with Heart & Soul

Visit the Elepidote exhibition – showcasing work from eight contemporary artists on the natural environment on display in Heart and Soul

Newquay Orchard is proudly hosting the ‘Elepidote’ group exhibition by ALMA Artspace CIC . Following the success of last year’s ALMA Artspace at the Orchard, the community is delighted to welcome ALMA Artspace CIC back to Heart & Soul.

This much-anticipated exhibition is a testament to community-driven initiatives, amplifying the voices of local artists.

ALMA Artspace CIC was founded in 2022 by Lucy Ward and Ingrid Pop. They launched with a three month residency at the old pavilion building in Mount Wise Car Mark, with a range of exhibitions, events and workshops for the public, and received funding from Tresorys Kernow. Following on from this initial project, Newquay Orchard invited them to plan a year-long art project on site, beginning ALMA Artspace at the Orchard.

For the first year of activity, four professional artists based in Cornwall – Ben Sanderson, Kitty Hiller, Hannah Waldron, and Bridgette Ashton – planned an exhibition, art workshop and collaborative art-work display, subsidised for the public to take part in. Their works were connected by an interest in environment, sustainability, materials and landscape, and always considering and linking to the seasons.

As a result of the success of these exhibitions and workshops, Newquay Orchard have invited ALMA Artspace CIC to plan a second year of curated exhibitions and workshops kicking off with Elepidote which opens this month.

Elepidote,’ features the works of eight talented contemporary artists. These artists, including Chloe Bonfeild, Anna Ilsley, Hannah Lawrence, James Meredew, Julianna Byrne, and Tom Sewell, will explore themes centred around the natural world.

ALMA is thrilled to be launching another year of cultural activity at the Orchard with this fantastic collection of contemporary paintings and works on paper, curated by Chloe Bonfield. The Orchard is the perfect space to host this exhibition.

The residency and exhibition will be accompanied by a natural pigment and painting workshop by exhibiting artist Anna Ilsley in December.
