Newquay Orchard’s education team are inviting young people to explore what it’s like to learn at the community garden on Tuesday 22 February, 10am – 2pm.
Drop in environmental and horticultural activities will give attendees a taster of what the curriculum is like here at our alternative learning environment. A tour of the greenspace will also give young people the opportunity to get to know the people and plants at Newquay Orchard.
Sarah Anthony, Education Manager at Newquay Orchard, is looking forward to meeting prospective students. She said, “Growing Futures is a fantastic way for young people to learn transferable skills, make friends in a welcoming environment and gain qualifications such as their GCSE math and English.”
“During the open day students and their parents or care givers will have 15 minutes with members of our education team, where we can assess student’s learning needs and see if Growing Futures is right for them,” she added.
Growing Futures is for young people aged 15 – 18, or 16 – 24 with an Education Health Care Plan, who thrive in alternative learning environments. As well as classroom based activities students learn in the community grow space, our polytunnel and new for 2022 the KREFT Maker Space.
Tea, coffee, fruit and snacks will be provided to attendees during the Growing Futures open day. Sensible clothing and footwear for practical outdoor activities is recommended and taster sessions will take place indoors if weather is bad.
People who would like to attend the Growing Futures open day must book in advance by email info@nqyorchard.pixolomew.design. There will be opportunities on the day to speak with the education team ask any questions. Young people who need 1:1 support must bring their own support during the session.
